Because people get involved emotionally in a game. Sound dumb? Not really, try spending 2 to 3 or even 7 hours a day in a game... time invested. Why complain about your job? It gives you money. Why complain about your boss? He employs you. Why complain about your school? You are getting a nearly free education. Why complain about your teachers? They are there to broaden your knowledge. Why complain about the 1 day your internet goes down? The other 300 days it was up.

People get emotionally involved and invest their time into things. It's natural to complain when it suddenly doesn't work/changes/or you lose interest in it.

@Tempy QFT well said.
@Lonesamurai I feel your pain brother, so damn true!

To the OP- They bitch because, generally, they CAN. It is easier to whine (and makes for a more meaty post) than to say gg Anet. As Tempy said, are there things that could be better? YES. C'mon though ppl....Anet does alot to try and make GW rock. I haven't liked all changes, but I love some and they can't please everyone all the time. In the case of some ppl, they can't please 'em at all :P

The PvP players are complaining because A.net has been severely mishandling the PvP aspects of the game. They released nightfall is a poorly balanced state. The PvP side of the game degenerated pretty rapidly and it has been over a month since the "fun season" ended and still no permanent balance changes. In addition the "test" balance changes presented missed some major issues and really don't seem to resolve a ton. Thus we are faced with the proposition of getting bad balances and then waiting another 3 months to see any inkling of a balance change again.

Combine this with what happened to HA and the complete destruction of the GvG ladder and the PvPers are going to be a bit ticked off. A.net is severely damaging the PvP side of the game. What they are doing to PvP would be like if A.net went back and decided to revamp nightfall PvE in a way that people think might make things worse off. Then they close down all of nightfall PvE except for the starter island and say we'll get the rest of it later. Later is no where in sight.

Luck has exactly nothing to do with it. When Anet stops giving a rat's arse about our opinions it will be well on its way to bankruptcy.

Constructive complaints are fine. Excessive pointless complaints are not and it seems like the GW community is full of pointless complaints.

I remember a thread complaining that the "please take a break" message was offending some people and they wanted it gone. People complained that minipets werent customized. There's a thread now of people complaining that certain weapons are getting inscriptions. Hell, people complained whenever someone made a thread praising Anet because it's deemed as being fanboi-ish.

These are the type of complaints that we can really do without.

A post about how wonderful Anet is and how everyone should never complain adds nothing useful to that process. A post about how, for instance, favor sux blue iguana eggs and should be removed, at least has the potential to add something useful to that process.

Be grateful we have far more of the latter than the former.
This post wins the thread.

Before i start, can i just say that I have worked damn hard to become a known voice in the community of Guild Wars and spent a lot of time in peoples shadows learning everything I can about the game so that i can, hopefully, put forward a concise and well thought out point about any part of the game that currently has an issue...

I have, in the past, worded things for some of the community so that they better portray how people feel and reitterate peoples feelings and thoughts on a subject so that both sides of the game (devs and players) can easily and simply understand each other and things can hopefully get done faster... However, I may be about to flame

no, we're lucky in the fact that Guild Wars even exists, and that was my point...

ANets ideals and goals were originally to bring a well rounded game that not only broke the mold, but broke several, whilst giving the biggest array of people the type of game they could play easily within both a simple and cheap package

The "idiot's" that I refer to are those that believe that not only the other side of the game doesn't exist, but that it has no part in the game and as such shouldn't affect "THEIR" game!

the recent skill balance and HA weekend is a stunning example of the idiots coming out of the woodwork

Please don't act like an authority on a subject when you know next to nothing about it. Each character build has roughly 300 skills available to it, that means there are roughly

300*299*298*297*296*295*294*293 combinations of skills

divide by i believe 8 due to duplicate builds with the skills in a different order and you have

4976369139625884000

possible builds for any 2 class combinations.

Now my math might be off a little, but that's a rather large number of builds to test in the time you think it would take.

A little positve reinforcement is good for companies also.

As to the complaints, I've asked this myself before and been told it's the point of having a forum - to allow everyone to express themselves. And that is true.

But, as in real life, the vocal minority often gathers more attention. On the forums, the mature discussions get lost in the mass of adolescent comments.

In-game, mature players will pm someone asking for help, thus avoiding the attention of the observers, while the "noob" and "go-away" comments are left in the chat window for everyone to see.

Judging the GW community based on what you see in the chat window will never give a true picture. We are like a huge extended family, with the usual "lock them up until they're 21" and "does he never stop complaining" members.

And to the OP - you also posted a complaint.

To summarise.
- Nightfall balance was either a result of complete incompetence or deliberate power creep.
- "Fun Seasons" are unfun.
- After waiting 3 months for a balance, last weekends test balance was a heap of steaming SH*T.
- Anet appear to have countered ladder farming by compressing ratings making ladder farming more important. They claim we will get tournaments, but "Later is no where in sight"

Play an online game by Electronic Arts for a year. You'll think Anet is the best thing since the internet became mainstream. I used to play Command and Conquer Renegade, and the support was so bad the fans had to hijack the game just to be able to stop cheaters, set up new server features, ect.

Please don't be deliberatly irritating. It took the PvP community about 1 day after nightfall release to realise that Spiritual Pain was imba as hell and it STILL isnt fixed. You dont need to consider how it reacts with any other skills to realise that a skill with ~3/4s cast(every mes has some fast cast) doing ~100 amour ignoring AoE dmg for 10E in a highly flexible and already powerful attribute line might just be overpowered.

Sure or you could just listen to what the top PvPers said about them being able to abuse EF with Aria of Zeal and "Watch Yourself!" which would have stopped one nerf and others whining. Or maybe they could have looked at Spiritual Pain which was 100+ ARMOR IGNORING DAMAGE. Thats not overpowered right? Wrong. What about a 5 energy blinding skill? Naw one of the most powerfull conditions in the game for 5 energy and a 4 second recharge why look at it? Its reasonable right? No. Not to mention AoE blind if enchanted. Sure theres thousands of builds but its the skills that need to be looked at not builds so maybe you need to think about what you're talking aobut. The skills i mentioned were clearly powerfull everyone knew it, it's just hurts when it takes Anet so long to do this meanwhile the game is slowly falling apart due to the broken ladder and HA two of the most competitive areas in Guild Wars.

Whether Anet is great is a matter of opinion. Only thing thats great about this thread are the people bashing eachother. Its very amusing to me.

Thank god that humans can use logic and reduce that number to what probably numbers in the hundreds.

The world deals with big numbers everyday - we find way to find what is important and what isn't

If there ever comes a new boxed realease i would love that they make it twice as expensive so they can finally fix the bugs and do some decent maintenance ingame.
